A mentor is a man who has walked some of the road you are on.
He is not a therapist, a counselor, or a spiritual director, even if he happens to be qualified as one.
If you need that kind of help, he will point you to it and encourage you the whole way.
Everything rests on the three things at the heart of being a heroic man: your relationship with God, your relationship with other men, and a mission bigger than yourself.
The same three that the Heroic Pledge calls every man to: pray daily, connect weekly, invite monthly.
Not a professional service
Mentors walk with you as brothers in Christ — not as therapists, counselors, or spiritual directors, even where they hold those qualifications. For professional help, a mentor will point you to it.
Why this program
Maybe you just moved and don't know a soul.
Maybe there's no strong parish or group of men anywhere near you. Maybe you've felt the pull to become a stronger man, a better husband or father, a man of deeper faith — but you don't know the next step, and you don't have anyone to take it with.
That's not a personal failure. That's where most men are. And it's the single biggest reason good intentions fade away: a man trying to change alone almost always stalls. A man with one brother in his corner actually gets going.
Mentorship gives you two things at once — a plan of heroic action, and someone walking it with you.

Mentorship in Heroic Men is free, and it always will be. We're in this for the Gospel — our reward is in heaven, not in your wallet. If this changes your life and you feel moved to help another man find the same thing, you're welcome to give.
But giving is entirely your choice, and it has no effect whatsoever on your mentorship, not on how you're matched, supported, or cared for.

Set up the first call yourselves, and agree on a plan. Stay in touch each week, and a program lasts 90 days.
The code between brothers
Every man agrees to this before he is paired. This keeps us safe and honest.
Treat each other with respect, honesty, and charity.
What is shared stays private — except where safety or the law requires otherwise.
No lending or borrowing money. No using the relationship for sales or personal gain.
Show up and communicate. If you need to step back, say so.
If anything makes you uncomfortable, you can end the relationship at any time and report it.
